Emily is a Vancouver based children’s illustrator, watercolour painter, and teller of strange tales. A lifelong fan of trees, birds, and the hidden places of the forest, she writes, illustrates, and binds weird little books to share with friends. She has self published small runs of books and organizes an annual mail based community zine swap. Her work is inspired by fairy tales and folklore, with bright colours, magical atmospheres, and plenty of watchful eyes. She's wanted to tell stories her whole life, and now she is doing just that.

Napoleon, Caesar, Cleo, and August work hard to deliver news to the residents of The Deep Woods at O'Hare's Woodland Gazette.One morning, they arrive at the print shop and find that their printing press has seemingly been vandalized. Unable to print this week's issue of the Gazette, the four animals set out to solve the mystery of who murdered their printing press and finish up the paper in time for their publication deadline.

"The Deep Woods can be found in the heart of the northern forest and along the edge of a long and looping river. If you were to visit this town and travel along the cobblestones of the main boulevard, you would eventually find yourself at the gold trimmed doorway of the Deep Woods Post Office. And if, by chance, you had a letter to send or a parcel to pick, you might open that door and hear the jangle of its bell and meet the fox known as Beatrice Raccoon."

Fisher the otter lives alone in the southern swamp aboard his floating bookshop. One day, he comes across an abandoned egg hidden in the reeds. That night he watches over the egg and reads to it, until it hatches into a little heron girl. Fisher with his new daughter Clementine traverse the rivers in their floating bookshop and they struggle to get along. Fisher is quiet, while Clementine is loud. Clementine likes pictures, while Fisher likes words. As the two get to know each other and explore the different towns along the river, they realize that the love and understanding they share matter more than any differences they may have. Even if they both struggle to belong to the world, they still belong to each other, and if they have a hard time conveying their feelings with words, they can show each other through their actions and the stories they share.This story is intended for children ages 3 - 7 and has a word count of 956 words.
